Queen's Golden Gaels FootballConference Leading Twelve Gaels Named To OUA Football All-Star Team Hamilton, Ont. (November 6, 2007) – Kingston’s Mike Giffin and Rob Bagg topped a list of twelve Golden Gaels who were named to the 2007 football all-star team announced earlier today by the Ontario University Athletics (OUA). The Gaels led the conference with twelve selections including six first team all-star selections. Giffin was the OUA’s leading rusher recording 186 carries, 1,157 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. Additionally he is the only back in Queen’s history to have rushed fover the 1,000-yard mark and broke numerous other school records. Bagg, an inside receiver finished second in the OUA with 36 receptions for 804 yards and six touchdowns on the season. His season was highlighted by a 341-yard, three touchdown performance against the University of Toronto on the final day of the regular season. His 341-yards gained put him second on the CIS list for receiving yards in a single game behind Queen’s alumni James MacLean who recorded 377 against Guelph in 2001. Jimmy Allin of Corbyville, Ont. received two nominations on the second team all-star squad earning a mention as a defensive halfback and sharing honours as one of the league’s best returners with Matt D’Souza from the University of Toronto. This season Allin tied a team record for most career pass break-ups. Allin, in his third year, is now tied with Kirby Calvert who played with the Gaels until 2005 with 17. Other Gaels receiving first team nod include: Offensive Tackle Cody Kennedy (Glenelg, N.S.); Defensive End Osi Ukwuoma (Mississauga, Ont.), Linebacker Thaine Carter (Nanaimo, B.C.); Free Safety Matt Vickers, (Stittsville, Ont.) Second team all-star mentions included: Centre Dan Bederman (Toronto); Guard Vincenzo DeCivita (Toronto); Cornerback Jay Oduwole (Coquitlam, B.C.); and rush cover D.J. Mulholland (Kingston, Ont.). The OUA season comes to an end this weekend with the 100th edition of the Yates Cup presented by Pioneer Petroleums is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. The Guelph Gryphons will host the Western Mustangs live on the Score Television Network (local channel 17). 2007 OUA Football First-Team All-Stars Defense 2007 OUA Football Second-Team All-Stars Defense * - denotes tie
